While I’ve been busy gallivanting around DC I’ve been feeling guilty. Why? Because I’ve been dying to tell you all about the event I attended 2 weeks ago – The Gluten Free Food Labeling Summit. I teased you about my going and I’m excited to report that attending was as wonderful as I’d hoped.
I arrived while the cake was still being finished but it was already looking fantastic! I mingled and was delighted to meet many folks who are instrumental in the gluten free community.
I spent time speaking with the general manager of Glutino, folks from Whole Foods, wonderful DC residents who are part of the DC Celiacs group, and lots of other people. We heard from speakers including a surprise visit from the FDA!
It was inspiring to be in an environment where the people were so friendly and tuned into the challenges facing the gluten free community. Also, with this being a food blog and all, I can’t tell you how excited I was that everything available for us to snack on was gluten free – crackers, pizza, desserts, and more. It was such an anomaly I ruined my dinner from snacking on foods I never ever get to eat. It was perfect!
The fight isn’t over for getting the FDA to pass gluten free food labeling standards. There’s more to be done but I hope the wait isn’t too long!
Sarah – what a great post and what fantastic pictures! Please share on our Flickr page too! http://www.flickr.com/photos/1in133/
I love your enthusiasm for our event and I love that you say on Twitter that “#GF Food Labeling deserves attention now too!” It absolutely does, and we can’t stop fighting for it until the FDA sets a standard!
Thanks for all you’re doing for the cause and to spread awareness! And thanks for joining us at the Gluten-Free Labeling Summit!
