Wow, I am tired. I didn’t mean to have such an active, tiring day but it just kind of happened. I secretly love it though!
I kicked off the morning with some mixed berries and an English muffin topped with PB&J plus an egg white.
Pre-workout snack of a few Glutino pretzels and some pistachios.
I hit the gym for my Tuesday Ultimate Conditioning class. Y’all – David the Australian and I were chatting after class and as he was telling me about liking building peoples’ strength his voice dipped a few octaves deeper. Love. After a 15 minute warm up on the elliptical I went to class. Our finisher was to complete side spiderman plank walks with a push up (think – push up position, step out w/ left arm and leg, push up, move right arm and leg. repeat. switch halfway so the right leads). I didn’t think I’d make the whole distance with pushups but I did except for 3 and was extremely proud! I cooled down on the bike for 10 minutes before it was lunchtime.
Lunch was a salad with cucumber, carrot, beets, green olives, and bell pepper. I also had a wrap on a corn tortilla with hummus, beet, and cucumber.
Afternoon snack was delicious leftover fruit from a work event and a few more pretzels.
And then a big craving for BBQ pulled chicken struck. I bought some chicken over the weekend and didn’t have anything in mind until this craving struck and I knew I had to have it for dinner. Thanks to Twitter friends, I was sent this recipe and after reading the ingredients / instructions knew it’s what I’d be trying.
I made a few modifications -
- .6 lb Chicken Breast (boneless,skinless)
- 3/4 cup Onions, Diced
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 14 oz Water
- 3/8 cup Amy’s Organic BBQ Sauce
- 1/8 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
- 3 tsp Sriracha
- 1/2 tsp Agave Syrup (to cool down the spice – I was heavy handed in the sriracha department!)
I served it up on a slice of Udi’s whole grain bread along with roasted vegetables.
After dinner I took a 45 minute slow walk to enjoy the beautiful weather and make a few phone calls home. I miraculously found myself at Rita’s Italian Ice (funny how that happened!) and got a kid’s cup with pear and vanilla (I ate about 3/4).
Now I’m watching Biggest Loser and ready to veg out on the couch. I had a pretty active day, not that I’m complaining. I love it!
Do you have a favorite trainer at the gym? Where do you usually find recipes?
Hi friends! Can you believe it was in the mid-80s today?! It felt like the perfect May spring day and I was l.o.v.i.n.g. it! The sun was shining and I couldn’t spend enough time outside.
After a weekend full of sightseeing, eating, walking, and quality time with my parents I was looking forward to a slower-paced Monday but it seems like my mind was tricked by the summer-like weather.
I was in back-to-back meetings for the first 5 hours of the day which made it go by quickly. Luckily they were across campus so I got little snippets of sunshine! After work I stopped by Trader Joe’s, dropped off groceries, and then headed to Whole Foods for a few more items and dinner.
This hot bar salad contains greens and spinach, bell pepper, mushrooms, peas, corn, onion, beets, Cuban chick peas, black beans, and some Brazilian rice. It was the perfect al fresco dinner after a weekend of delicious (but somewhat indulgent) food with the ‘rents.
Walking home, the last thing I wanted to do was spend time in my apartment. Instead I met up with a friend and we went for a nice little walk through a new neighborhood. Another accidental 3.6 miles for the day and I’ve walked 9 miles today! Ooops. That wasn’t he slow-paced day I’d originally had in mind but it was totally worth it!
How do I calm achy arches and a tired body? A cold shower followed by rolling my feet with a frozen water bottle. It hits all the parts of my feet perfectly and feels sooo good!
If you were in DC today did you soak up some sun? What’s your favorite home remedy for sore / tired muscles?
It’s not often that I hop out of bed 25 minutes before my alarm, especially on a Monday morning coming off of a not-so-great night of sleep. But yesterday I found myself eager to get the day started. Perhaps the allure of warm and sunny weather got me excited?? I tackled a couple of chores to kick the day off productively and then it was time for work.
I was hungry and searching for a snack a good hour earlier than I usually do. I’m not sure what breakfast of an English muffin with red pepper spread, hot sauce, and ~1.5 egg whites plus pineapple and blueberries was missing but I made up for it with ~1/3 of a Larabar and a fruit leather with a schmear of peanut butter.
On my lunch hour I hit the gym for a total body conditioning class. After a month in the Tuesday class that features a lot of body weight exercises, sprints, and high intensity training, this class left me aggravated and wishing it were Tuesday. The instructor was the opposite of motivating and I did not enjoy a lot of the exercises we did. Oh well, a workout is a workout, right? I cooled down with some time on the elliptical and then it was time to eat.
Lunch was leftover chicken on a bed of spinach with brown vegetable rice.
My afternoon snack was some cucumber slices with 1/2T of hummus plus a mini bag of popcorn.
The rest of the night was spent tackling errands and chores followed by relaxing.
Do you ever find yourself ahead of real time?
