The New AM Routine

“When I wake up in the mornin’

and the ‘larm gives out a warning

I don’t think I’ll ever make it on time”

Adjusting to a new morning routine on top of a cross-country move wasn’t the easiest of challenges I’ve given myself in the last 5 weeks. They say it takes 3 weeks to form a habit and I’m excited to admit that today (week 4) my routine felt a little more… well, routine! Mornings around here look something like this:

7:08AM   The alarm goes off and obligatory email scan on the Blackberry

7:10AM   Shower, towel dry hair, eye make up

7:20AM   Blow dry hair, start the getting-dressed-for-work process

7:25 -:28AM   Turn on straightener and pop into the kitchen to defrost part of breakfast

7:28AM   Straighten hair, make up, finish getting dressed for work

by 7:40AM Into the kitchen to finish making breakfast

7:48-:50AM Eat! I’m loving a combination of whole grain bread product, PB&J or eggs, and some fresh fruit. This morning’s combo was 2 slices of Udi’s Millet-Chia bread, 1 egg + 1 splash more egg white cooked with salt and pepper, and cinnamon dusted strawberries. Yum!

8:05AM Brush teeth and collect my gym bag. Fill up water bottle.

8:10AM Off to work (often with a Starbucks run on the way O:-) )

I know it seems pretty OCD-like and scheduled (which isn’t me at all…ha) but if I leave myself room to dilly-dally I’ll run out of time and I still don’t want to be late to work. I haven’t even been there for a month and good impressions last a long time!

What does your morning schedule look like?

Quiet Sunshine

Imagine my surprise when at 7:00am on the dot my eyes opened and my body refused to sleep any more. I’m not an early riser by choice, especially on the weekends but it seems like my body had other plans for me this morning.

After getting home from Part 1 of Wedding Weekend festivities I had a snack but apparently it wasn’t enough because my stomach was growling in this early morning hour. Since I was up I decided to take a Carpe Diem approach. Lemons to super sweet lemonade!

I finished packing, munched on a slice of Udi’s with peanut butter and hit the gym for an intense 35 minute elliptical workout. I couldn’t get over how nice and quiet it was outside – the sun was shining, there was barely any traffic, and there was a nice cool breeze. I’d definitely say it’s been quite the nice little morning.

Now I’m eating an egg sandwich on a gluten free English muffin with a few strawberries.

Let the Wedding Weekend festivities officially begin!

Sleep on the weekends – Carpe Diem or sleep in?
