Starting the Goodbyes

Gah, I can’t believe that my last week in DC has arrived. It feels surreal and if it wasn’t for the empty apartment, furniture selling, and goodbye plans I wouldn’t believe it for myself.

In fact, check out my new “desk” for the week since I sold my table and chairs this evening.

Tonight I had plans to tackle a big item on my bucket list – sunset from the back of the Lincoln Memorial. I met my friend Shelby in Dupont and we walked down to the monument for sunset and stories from our weekend. With views like these, I’m extremely lucky that I’ve gotten to spend 4 amazing years living in this city.

Our night ended with a touch of fro yo since we weren’t ready to go our separate ways just yet. This wasn’t our final goodbye but was probably our final walking adventure which makes me sad.

I’m excited that I get to have fun this week since I did a majority of my packing last week but I don’t think the reality of leaving has fully settled in just yet…

Long Weekend Highlights So Far

Happy 4th of July! The holiday has kicked off with a productive streak cooking and cleaning up for a little get-together this evening. Do you have any exciting plans?

This weekend has been fantastic – filled with friends, fun, and some relaxation too.  Saturday I spent all day at my friend’s pool soaking in some [not humid] sunshine.

I had the chance to catch up with Victoria over gelato at Dolcezza. I got mojito and blueberry-lemon-thyme sorbets that were amazing!

This gorgeous package arrived today, thanks to a giveaway I won over on Marlow‘s blog

Yesterday I ventured over to the farmers market and then took myself on a little sightseeing adventure. It was hot but a great way to do something fun and “DC” and sneak in 6 miles of walking!

More to come later about today’s festivities and eats!

What’s been the highlight of your long weekend so far?

Perfect Birthday Eve

I spent all day today at a staff retreat with our new team at work. I enjoyed spending the day away from the computer and getting to know new colleagues better. In between orientation sessions and retreats, I’m really glad that I’m taking tomorrow off to enjoy a relaxing birthday!

Look what was waiting for me when I got home today – my Institute for Integrative Nutrition materials. It’s like back to school shopping was done for me and delivered to my door step. Now I’m just counting down to the start of classes on July 11!

For dinner a few nights this week I’ve enjoyed this salad as a big component. It contains greens (romaine and spinach), purple cabbage, cucumber, roasted golden beets, some frozen corn, parmesan cheese, and Annie’s green garlic dressing.  One night I added a couple of crumbled tortilla chips for crunch. It took maybe 5 minutes to throw together and is perfectly light and refreshing!

After the rest of my dinner I took a nice sunset walk covering about 2.7miles while catching up on the phone with my parents. It was  pretty comfortable summer night in DC and the fireflies were out in full force!

There’s no better way that I would’ve wanted to say goodbye to 25. See you in the morning with a special post!

Summer Sarah

I think it’s no coincidence that summer is my favorite season. I was born in June and have always felt my best in the heat. This week I have really accepted that I’m a Warm Weather Gal and have taken note of my sunny mood, positivity, and plethora of [sometimes really bad] jokes and smart remarks. Hooray for summer!

The rest of yesterday went swimmingly. I had a delicious salad with fat free refried beans, carrot, peach salsa, and a cornbread muffin and then it was roof time!

I got my daily dose of vitamin D and then went to the gym to do some cardio. I tackled 45 minutes on the elliptical and 15 on the spin bike. My original goal was to just cool down on it but I got distracted by an email which I read while spinning. Last night friends came over for wine and dinner on the roof. The temperature was perfect, the conversation and wine flowing, and we had great girls time. It was fun to toast to Mrs. Brotman now that wedding festivities are complete!

By some small miracle I managed to sleep in and get 10 hours of sleep. It was glorious! Waking up 2 hours later than I have in 2 weeks meant I was starving and had a quick English muffin with peanut butter, pineapple preserves, an egg white, and some fruit.

After computer work I got my spin on again with a pretty intense 40 minute self-guided workout. I sprinted, climbed, etc. based on my mood and which some came on my iPod. I cooled down and made my weekly Whole Foods trip with a big salad for lunch.

This beauty has kale, mixed greens, carrot, beets, bell pepper, baked beans, plain chicken, and some corn and was enjoyed al fresco.

I have a few things to look forward to tonight and tomorrow so the busyness continues. I really love summer!
